Embroidery
The art of embroidery was considered a female occupation in Palestine at the beginning of the 20th century. Embroideries from Bethlehem and Jerusalem, in particular, are renowned for their vibrant patterns. Using large frames to stretch the fabric, artisans can create these elaborate designs. Beforehand, the patterns are sketched with pointed soap. During the process, the embroiderer sits on a cushion behind the embroidery frame.
